About Program

The BS Optometry & Refraction Technology program is a four-year professional degree that prepares students for careers in eye care, vision assessment, and the detection of visual problems. The program combines classroom learning with practical training in clinical optometry, ocular conditions, refraction, contact lens fitting, patient care, and the use of modern diagnostic equipment.

Students gain hands-on experience in vision testing and clinical procedures under the guidance of eye care professionals. Graduates are prepared to support optometrists and ophthalmologists in providing quality eye care services and may pursue opportunities as optometry technologists, vision therapists, optical laboratory specialists, and eye care professionals in hospitals, clinics, and optical centers.

Eligibility Criteria

  • 4 Years: Applicants with HSSC in Pre-Medical or Relevant Technology, or A-Levels with an IBCC equivalence certificate, are eligible to apply with at least 50% marks. Candidates holding a diploma from a recognized Medical Faculty in a relevant field may also apply with at least 50% marks under the annual system or a minimum 2.00/4.00 CGPA under the semester system, along with the required IBCC equivalence.
  • 2.5 Years: Applicants with an Associate Degree in a non-relevant Allied Health discipline may be considered for the 2.5-year track with at least 50% marks under the annual system or a minimum 2.00/4.00 CGPA from a recognized university or DAI, subject to departmental approval. Such students will complete a bridge semester in the relevant discipline before continuing with the prescribed study plan from the 5th to the 8th semester.
  • 2 Years: Candidates holding an Associate Degree in Relevant Technology with a minimum 2.00/4.00 CGPA from a recognized university or DAI may enter the program from the 5th semester. Additional credit hours may be assigned where required to align previous study with the degree requirements.
